A cylinder is a container designed to contain gases or liquids at pressures significantly different from ambient pressure. The working pressure of a cylinder varies depending on its application, size, content, and construction material.
The standard working pressure (wp) of cylinders used in industry, skilled craft, diving, and medicine was only 150 bars (2,200 psi) in Europe until about 1950. From 1975 until now, the standard pressure has been 200 bars (2,900 psi).
