LNG ISO tanks: Transporting Liquefied Natural Gas
ISO standards and DOT regulations
ISO tanks, built according to ISO standards (International Organization for Standardization), are commonly used for transporting liquids and gases in bulk quantities.
LNG ISO tanks are designed to carry liquified natural gas (LNG) safely.
These stainless steel tanks feature multi-layered vacuum-insulated pressure tanks backed up by double-walled transport tanks that help store LNG at temperatures as low as -162 degC (-260 degF). Their maximum pressure level is 0.690 MPa.
An ISO intermodal container comprises two containers—an inner tank that holds the liquid natural gas (LNG) and an outer container with insulation materials—connected by two valves. Full containment tanks are most often utilized, though their size may differ depending on their intended use. Transporting LNG in ISO tanks offers an innovative and cost-effective alternative to traditional natural gas distribution methods.
LNG Cryogenic Tank SPECIFICATION

DESCRIPTION : 45700 LITRES T75 UN PORTABLE TANK(40’ LNG ISO tank container)
LNG ISO tank container
These tanks feature working pressures ranging from 100psi to 10 Bar and are ideal for transporting LNG safely. Furthermore, these tanks boast features like high vacuum insulation, stacking capabilities of nine units high, complete decal sets, and various pipework options to offer maximum versatility to end users and operators alike.
Gas | 20ft, 40ft, 45ft | They are specifically designed to carry industrial, medical, and natural gasses, such as liquified petroleum gas and heliox. |
Multi-compartment | 20ft, 40ft | Great if you’re looking to transport various liquids, powders, and gasses simultaneously. |
LNG ISO tanks | 20ft, 40ft, 45ft | Intended to ship liquified natural gas (LNG) such as methane and ethane. |
20ft and 40ft LNG iso tank containers
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) can be efficiently transported over long distances using cryogenic ISO tank containers.
This method offers a cost-effective solution for supplying fuel to end users far from the LNG source.
A 20ft cryogenic LNG ISO container has a storage capacity of 22,000 litres and operates at a working pressure of 17 BAR.
Container Type | Container Size (L x W x H/mm) | Design Code | Load Weight (KG) | Design Temperature (°C) |
20ft LNG iso tank container | 6,058 x 2,438 x 2,591 | ASME/GB | 26000~28500 | -196~+50 |
40ft LNG iso tank container | 12,192 x 2,438 x 2,591 | ASME/GB | 30480~34000 | -196~+50 |
The LNG tank container is designed to store cryogenic natural gases under pressure temporarily. The inner vessels are made from austenitic stainless steel and cold-stretched for specific medium—and high-pressure models.
These tanks are also available vertically or horizontally and can hold cryogenic gases such as LIN, LOX, LAR, LNG, CO2, and N2O.
